DTS Update
I wanted to share a quick update with all your survivalists out there. For the last few months I have been in the pits of launching a new business (shameless plug…visit www.revolverboutiques.com). The whole process really took and is still taking a big chunk of my time as we hone the model in, make changes and gain some traction. This is why the site has been much less active…because a fellas gotta earn a living. Stay tuned for more posts as time permits. Thanks!
H1N1 Flu Update- I Didnt Die!
I’m sure there are much tougher dudes walking around- although those who know me do know I am basically a totally bad ass. That being said this bad ass lived through the swine flu with no shots, no nasal spray and only about 5 bucks worth of over the counter meds. Take that flu!
I have been missing from the site for a few weeks while dealing with this flu, which was in fact H1N1. I cant speak for kids or the elderly but i lived to tell the tale with no help but some good common sense, although I may be guilty of spreading the disease to about 5 of my close friends, but they are tough and should be ok.
As a normal healthy adult I can say this- get the vaccine if you really want, but chances are you will deal with this thing just like you would the normal flu (which kills all kinds of people every year as it is). There are probably bigger issues to worry about unless you fall into the high risk groups. There you have it.
Representing Hard
Every morning I walk around downtown. I do this mostly because I don’t want my dogs to poop all over my house, and because you see some crazy stuff..today was no exception.
You can usually spot closet survivalists by the funny shoes they wear that don’t quite match their outfits, or the belts they have that do at least TWO other things than hold their pants up…but this morning I spotted a guy who just flat out was owning it hard…in a Nissan non the less…
Here’s to you guy with custom survivalist licence plates, you showed us all…
Where Will We Get Swine Flu Vaccinations?
Yay there is an H1N1 vaccination! Hooray the government has bought basically the entire availible supply with the intention on supplying to to Americans!
But wait….where do I get vaccinated? You could ask your doctor, but he/she dosnt know yet..ok ok why not ask your friends…because they dont know yet…ok, lets ask the CDC they should know about this stuff right? Sorry guys, they dont know yet either.
So what DO we know? Well we know that the first series of 45 million vaccinations are due to land mid October, but I also do know there are 159 million people who fall into the CDC’s recommended for vaccination list (based on age, and health condition)
Colleges and universities will offer the vaccine to students and, in many cases, to faculty as well, either free or for a nominal charge of perhaps $10 to $15 to cover administrative costs.
Most elementary and high schools will not offer the vaccines, however. “Schools have told us that it is too logistically complicated to send a permission slip home and have it returned,” Fielding said. Some schools may serve as vaccination sites, but only as part of a broader community program. Orange County has not yet determined whether it will run school programs, said county health director Dr. Nancy Bowen.
Other vaccination sites in Los Angeles County may include fairgrounds, civic centers, community centers and other facilities that can handle a high traffic flow, provide security and have sufficient parking. They should also be near bus stops or Metro stations, Fielding said. At most sites, the vaccines will be free, but pharmacies and physicians will most likely charge a small fee for administration of the vaccine.
Thanks LA times! that clears it up…or wait..so I can get a shot at a metro station? And the fair ground?
Here is the point I am making, no one has a plan that has been published on how to distribute this thing, no one knows if its going to be free for everyone of if we have to pay, all we do know is the first round isn’t enough and that WE DONT KNOW.
I am not too worried, I ve gotten many a flu and lived to tell the tale, but in the end its very concerning to realize that we plan to help cover the hisk of a large population being infected is not really done yet…with three weeks left before the first round of vaccinations land where ever it is they are landing.
Keep you ears open on this one and I will do the same, until then we can count or selves in the same boat as the rest of the gang…we just don’t know.
Pour some out for your homies
Remembering the tragedy of September 11th, this survivalist asks you to pour a little out, bow your head or say a prayer for those who lost their lives to deadliest act of terror on American soil in our history.
Please do this in the spirit of healing and unity not in hate and fear.
The Perfect Storm
Although the data is sound, I don’t spend much time worrying about stuff like this (im more concerned with going broke or an earth quake leveling my apartment in the next 6 months..), but you can do whatever you want with it.
Happy Friday.

Quick Note On Kids And Survivalism
The world wont be that great if the only people who are around to see it are survivalists, being that they typically are young-middle aged men, I mean, how much fun would that be?
If you are a parent its your responsibility to teach your children some basic survival skills. Keep in mind survivalism doesn’t need to be all about doomsday, it can be fun and bring you closer together. Most schools over basic earthquake preparedness in my area, but after 5th grade we are not drilled or tested any more until you find this blog and start all over again.
However you decide to do it, know that it can be fun and NOT scary. Fire safety, camping, gardening, even hunting can be really fun and educational for kids all the while teaching them to be prepared for emergencies. After all, when something happens you dont want your family to be the family left behind because you are the only one prepared. Kids love this kind of stuff, hell kids generally love whatever kind of stuff their parents are really into at a young age.
Below is a picture of my one match patch circa 1980 something. My parents, like many sent me to camp to learn about all kinds of cool stuff, and on that particular day, I for the first time started a fire with only one match (now I don’t need matches at all) and to this day I still remember it. (and yes it is framed, thank my dad for that)
Remember, real survivors are ones who include thier families and friends in thier passion for prepardness, if you can do this your chances of safey in an emergency increase exponentially. Just dont mention the zombies…….

An Open Letter To The Moms Of Survivalists
Like many a proud bloggers mom, mine reads this site regularly, regardless of her interest in the content, because she is a mom and that what they do. But my mother, who is one of the most grounded people I know takes my interest in survivalism as a by product of fear, or paranoia or maybe a combination of both.
I have a feeling that you, my survivalist audience each has a woman or man in your life that feels the same way about your interest in survival. And that’s ok..its kind of a weird thing, its comes and goes as a pop culture hot topic, and is generally associated with weird loner mountain men (who I happen to think are bad ass). But the reality is, survivalists are you and me, the guys and gals living next door, or in the cubical next to you at the office.
So what is survivalism all about? For me, its not about being scared. For me survivalism is about self improvement, its about possessing a core skill set that is applicable anytime anywhere, and like this site its about helping other people. By improving ourselves through learning about survivalism we are fighting fear with information. I am not trying to perpetuate fear, I am trying to share bits of my knowledge base that may help someone in a time of need, that’s its.
No doomsday predicting, no conspiracy theory. I vote democrat, I believe in moderate gun control, the woman’s right to choose and legalizing marijuana, I am not a right wing conservative (which there is nothing wrong with being, to each their own) or a loner with a laptop. And I am here to tell you that its ok to be interested in this stuff, its ok to not fit the mold of a stereotypical survivalist and its ok to talk about it with your friends and family, even if they think you are a little weird. This is just one small piece of who we are.
I am the every mans survivalist. Just a normal guy enjoying his life just like you.
So I invite you, moms and concerned friends of my readers, to please write to me as a guest blogger and share your views about survivalism, although this is my site I’m happy to share both sides of the spectrum, from the dedicated to survivalist to our friends and family that may be concerned life is passing us by filled with fear, and everyone in between.
Below is a comment posted by my mother, for reference….and mom, in no way is this a criticism of your comment, I just think its a great jumping point to start a dialog that might bring a very polarized group a little closer together.
I am happy to see that you will survive a major catastrophe. Your blog is well-written, and I am proud of you for that, but I would like to know what major catastrophe are we preparing for? Is it good to live with a constant focus on having to arm yourself, protect yourself, be vigilant? Is it possible that if we all dropped the physical and psychological armor that we wouldn’t need it? I’m glad you liked the book I sent, but I certainly didn’t intend to increase your base of fear. Maybe you’ll read something to counter it. Maybe I’ll send you a poem. Love, Mom
And mom, please send me that poem, I do love good poetry, even more than I love starting fires on my balcony at night with no matches…you know….just in case
